I know many of you have expressed interest in the past in an AML blog. Just out of curiosity, is there anyone out there who would be interested in being a regular blogger (once a week? once a month?) for an AML blog if we were to create one? (If you don't want to post here about your willingness, email me at daryoung at yahoo.com.)

I think before AML starts a blog, it might be a good idea to define what it is about and what its structure would be. To be honest, blogs aren't like email lists or discussion boards, so I don't quite think that a blog would work to try and cover the same kind of material that get's done there. And there are already several blogs that cover Mormon literature and culture, so I'm not sure why the AML needs a blog if it covers that. If it is a general blog about Mormon literature and culture, wouldn't it be better to make it part of Irreantum and integrate it with the magazine? That might make better conceptual sense.

It seems to me that AML has gone through several conceptual iterations, and that reviewing these iterations might help define better what we are talking about.

When i first joined AML-list, Benson Parkinson was running the list and had list members who wrote weekly columns on specific subjects as a way of stimulating conversation and (I suppose) covering a broad range of topics.

After Benson stopped editing the list, Chris Bigelow started Irreantum, which kind of filled that role, but since it was divorced from the list, the list didn't usually discuss the Irreantum stories.

I think the discussion board we have now has the potential to organize discussions along this line, but hasn't yet developed that way -- mainly since there aren't assignments or responsibilities for certain subjects.

There are several literature and culture blogs already - A Motley Vision, Segullah, LDS Publisher, etc. and I'm not sure how this new blog would fit in with all that.

I guess what I'm saying is that its hard to know whether to help or not or what to expect without a definition of what the scope of the blog would be.
