LAST CHANCE TO SUBMIT FILMS
ENTRY DEADLINE FOR LDS FILM FESTIVAL COMING UP THIS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1
Friday, December 1, is the final postmark deadline for all film submissions for the LDS Film Festival 2008. Selected films will be screened at the 7th Annual LDS Film Festival from January 16-19, 2008, at the Scera Center for the Arts in Orem, Utah. The festival is seeking inspiring, creative, and innovative films for its three film categories: The Short Film Competition, Special Screenings, and Feature Film Exhibitions.

The Short Film Competition is an integral part of the LDS Film Festival. Films that play in the competition programs find a wide audience and give filmmakers an opportunity to showcase their talent to an increasing number of industry professionals. In the past, filmmakers like Jared Hess ("Napoleon Dynamite"), Ryan Little ("Saints and Soldiers"), Andrew Black ("Pride & Prejudice"), Tim Skousen (The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang, which opens in Utah theater this weekend) and many others have had their short films in the competition.

Every year the festival showcases a number of films in its Special Screening Program that are between 20 and 60 minutes long. In the past, the festival was able to present acclaimed live action, documentary and animation films that were of special interest to an LDS audience. Special screenings are not part of a competition, but give filmmakers an opportunity to present their work to an interested audience.

Feature Film Exhibitions at the LDS Film Festival are growing with each year. The LDS Film Festival began to showcase feature films in 2004 and has since premiered numerous feature films. In 2007, a record 12 feature films were screened at the festival. In 2008, we look forward to an even more exciting program. Filmmakers enjoy the festival atmosphere with thousands of people attending and multiple networking opportunities.

Local filmmaker, Brandon Smith, says, "Some people have the impression that we are all making seminary films. They are ignorant of the broad scope of subject matter and techniques that are explored and created by the LDS filmmaking community."

Scott Taylor, an award winning scriptwriter, remarks, "Don't sell the LDS Film Festival short -- more people saw my film there than at any of the other three festivals at which my film was shown."
