The AML will present its 2007 Awards at our upcoming annual meeting. At this time, the awards committee invites suggestions of works that should be considered for the awards. "Nomination" is sort of a misnomer; every published book or story or play that fits the criteria below is automatically eligible, but if the awards committee doesn't know about it, we can't really consider it. Because of this, we are particularly interested in hearing about works by LDS authors that have been published outside the mainstream Mormon market.
Awards are presented in the following categories:
Biography
Criticism
Film
Novel
Personal Essay
Poetry
Short Fiction
Theater
Young Adult Fiction
In addition, we also have a Special award category for exceptional works that don't fit into any of the other categories.
To be eligible for an award, a work must:
1. Have been published, released, or staged in the calendar year 2007; and
2. Be written or produced by a Mormon OR
3. Have significant, positive LDS content regardless of author's religious affiliation
(i.e.
The Godmakers would not be getting an award no matter how much LDS content it has).
Additionally, critical works MUST be about LDS literature, religion, or culture.
If you have any questions about whether something is eligible, please contact the awards administrator at
Melissa@Proffitt.com.
Thank you in advance for your participation! This is the most exciting time of the awards year--seeing all the wonderful things our culture has produced, and being able to officially recognize that quality.
