Review ====== Title: Parenting the Strong-Willed Child Author: Kevin Hinckley Publisher: Deseret Book Genre: Non-fiction Year Published: 2008 Number of Pages: 295 Binding: Paperback ISBN: 978-1-59038-917-1 Price: $19.95 Reviewed by Jaymie Reynolds Parenting the Strong-Willed Child, by Kevin Hinckley is a fabulous book about parenting. It is filled with information on what will work, both for strong-willed children and for those who are not, and why it is effective. This book is a fantastic resource that will help any mother or father to improve their parenting skills. Kevin Hinckley begins his book with a detailed background of the origins of rebellion. How individual marriages and relationships play a part in raising children is also discussed. While these things give us an understanding of why children are sometimes strong-willed and rebel, the actual parenting advice does not begin until page eighty-four. The author does a good job of weaving valid quotes and detailed examples into this book. It is easy to visualize the situations that he is referring to. While his writing style is smooth and easily readable, the content is deep enough to qualify this book as heavy reading. Those who truly want the benefits this book have to offer had best come prepared with a highlighter, a pen and possibly sticky notes to write down how they can apply it to their own lives. While Parenting the Strong-Willed Child offers some wonderful information and many helpful tips, it does occasionally become bogged down because there is so much detail crammed into such a small space. The extra background that is given will, at times, catch the reader and make it difficult to move on. It would be nice to see this information presented in a way that does not halt the flow of the book. Overall, Kevin Hinckley's book has proved itself a valid contender in the parental help department. It is well written and provides a wealth of information. This book is a solid read that deserves more than a second glance.
